The outer ring appears to expand while the inner ring appears to contract. Moreover, the rings appear to rotate when observers approach or move away from the figure while fixating at the center. Furthermore, the color of the outer ring appears to be different when appoaching and when moving away.

As we see the image is in full colour, but apparently if you stare at the center of it for a few seconds, it turns into shades of gray. What you should do for the black and white optical illusion image above:

Stare at the center of the image above for at least 30 seconds. Then look at a blank white wall, or a peice of paper. What do you see? On this page you'll see that the after image of the black and white image above is much stronger than the one in color below.
